Walnuts have been considered a delicacy throughout the ages, but why? If we look at the nutritional benefits we might understand why.
1. Promotes a healthy heart
Walnuts have omega 3 fatty acids that help reduce inflammation in the body. Much of todays diet is deficient in omega 3's and eating a handful of walnuts everyday is a great way to add in a little more omega 3 into our diets. Walnuts are the highest nut in Omega-3 fatty acids, that may reduce the risk of heart disease.
2. Promotes a healthy brain
Cognitive functions of the brain and memory are enhanced with the addition of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory polyphenols (compounds) which are found in Raw walnuts. Daily consumption of raw walnuts may improve brain health slow down mental decline.
3. Promotes a healthy gut
Research has shown that our gut microbes can benefit from the addition walnuts in the diet.

This study shows better gut health and bacteria in people who consumed walnuts as a regular part of their diet.
One thing to remember is that walnuts have a short shelf life. It is important to buy walnuts that are fresh and stored properly. Walnuts that sit in the stores on the shelves for too long go rancid and they are then not going to be beneficial to your health. Rancid oils cause inflammation in the body, so you have to be careful as to the quality of your walnuts. If you can buy straight from a farm that will be the best reassurance of getting the freshest walnuts possible.
Here at Briden Wilson Farm we store our walnuts in a cold storage where they stay fresh all year long. When you receive your walnuts make sure to store the extras in the fridge or freezer in a well sealed bag to ensure freshness until the last one is gone.
Here's to your health and happiness!
